JANUARY TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Sphere's January Test Drive meme! This is a great place to get a feel for the game and how your characters might fit in here. Explore the setting, and get your samples and some starting CR all at the same time! A note for current players: this will not be the same as the main February plot so if you're feeling this, come on over here and have fun!
- Applications and Reserves are always open!
- Threads on the TDM are considered game canon if both parties agree to it!
- Threads on the TDM may be considered for Activity Check if need be!
blue moon
So the people within the Sphere City miss the moon. At least, that’s what someone can draw from the fact that as January slips into February, large images of the moon are everywhere. The Full moon, to be more specific. There are silver streamers around the merchant dome, and lights have been modified to have a more silver than golden glow in appearance, even at all hours of the day there. Sure it makes things a bit difficult to see, but that’s not really a problem is it?
At night, several domes have large projections of the moon made against the domes. They’re pictures of the moon in varying states of artistic and scientific values. There's a kind of dreamy music that’s played, and a lot of the locals have silver flowers in their hair. Fire pits are common, and older residents are seated around them, telling tales of the moon and its connection to the waters above them. Some stories tell how it glows and shines or is made of green cheese. They also tell how sometimes there were people in the moon, men or women, gods or goddesses, or animals like rabbits. And some stories tell of how the moon would make people mad, and that’s where the term lunacy comes from.
Oh, and there are a few stories about werewolves too. And about how there walking among the people in the Sphere. Even now.
Food at the festival is based around the moon too, or at least the idea of the moon. There’s mooncake of course, but there’s also moon pies, half moon cheese pies, and pierogi, and various cheese and cracker platters, because the moon is made of green cheese after all. There’s moon-based cocktails, that are blue and silver. And some that are shimmering and shining.
People can draw fortunes from the moonwell, but, they’re silly and nonsensical, and people eat the silvery rice paper after they’re finished with them. A few of them however have more ominous sort of fortunes in them. Things like “help me” or “they’re out to get you” or “they’re coming and you can’t stop them.” People shrug those ones off too though. if someone asks about them.
what big eyes you have
So, there are rumors about werewolves that have been circulating around town, and people seem to be given red cloaks at random. Pretty girls and women are offered them the most, but they are open to anyone. If people put them on, which the surrounding locals will cheer and encourage them to do. Then they tell them that their clue is in their pockets and that they will save the town.
In the pockets is another silver disk with a list of names on it. One of those names is a werewolf. You’re given three clues (something like: ‘wearing a blue sweater’ or ‘bald man’ or ‘at the candy stall’) for each one, and then you either accuse them of being a werewolf or clear them. If you accuse them and you’re correct then you’re given a small vial with glowing stones in it and are told that they were actually pieces of the moon before it was lost. Whatever that means. You may want to hold onto them.
If you accuse them and you’re wrong, the game is over for you for the moment and the cloak is taken away. Each cloak has a different list of six names on it, and the names replenish every time someone gets a new cloak. Why yes, the Sphere is playing a game of werewolf with you. How the game goes entirely up to you, and whether or not your character gets invested or what. NPCs are definitely available for this if need be! Please feel free to go a little nuts with this, and player characters can definitely be one of the suspects if they're up for it.
something that was lost can be found.
It’s big news around Sphere City: some old lost and sealed domes have been found along the edges of town. Not only have they been found, but they’re open! Not only are they open but the stuff inside is there on a first come first serve basis. These old domes show no signs of dust, but there are some personal effects within them, pictures and the like. They definitely belonged to someone who had been pulled into the city at some point within the last seven years.
And they’re definitely worth checking out. One never knows one might find in them. Various varieties of clothing are available, as are books, food items (probably shouldn’t eat them), toys and there may or may not be some magical or important historical things hidden here or there if your character is very lucky. Mod note: Nothing world breaky or living can be found, but small things like potions or jewelry or amulets or small weapons (daggers or guns with a very limited amount of bullets.)

This is a good place to test out something like the network or an idea of your own! Remember upon waking in The Sphere, each character is fitted with a small golden circle behind their right ear. This is how they are connected to the network through a neural link. Touch and hold the button to create a broadcast of one of three types:
- Audio. Your character thinks audible words onto the network.
- Writing: Your character thinks text into the network.
- Video. Your character projects a broadcast of a video of themselves onto the network.

10th Doctor
The Doctor is trying to enjoy himself at this moon fair - and everything that he eats is very suggestive; even if someone is trying to be. However, is bothered that a voice was able to sound like Rose - because Rose wouldn't leave him. Least not talk to him and then not be there. Something got inside his head. However, mingling is a good way to pick up clues - which here comes in the form of fortunes.
Where others may write off; the help me' 'they're out to get you' 'they're coming and you can't stop them'
The Doctor is wondering; who is asking for help? Who is out to get them? Who is coming?
Then shouts down to the MoonWell; "Who is coming? Who is asking for help?I'm The Doctor! I'm here to help you!"
something that was lost can be found.
Somehow - the search on where the fortune from the fortune cookie came from lead The Doctor to the outskirts of town and can't help but be amazed but also concerned on the piles and piles of stuff.
Someone has a knack collecting habit - though he doesn't like the guns being there -
No dust. This place is being used.
"No." Stating in disbelief at a certain Elder Wand and gently picks that up. Can't be real - can it? It's definitely wood; which is when a certain FOB watch with Gallifreyan inspection; The Doctor carefully picks that up and holds that - that, that is real. If that is real - if these items are real someone has a multiverse hoarding habit - don't mind as someone is running around looking for a blue Police Box and trying to get sidetracked from all the otherworldly knickknacks.
blue moon
Freya approached the Doctor carefully. She had known one doctor, in a world and a place that felt like a life time ago, but this man was different. Not entirely different but she knew how places like these could effect memory and situation. She wasn't going to assume but she was going to be careful.
"Or is it a lure." She continued before coming to a stop near the MoonWell.
"How badly do you want to find out?"
Re: blue moon
A twinkle in those brown eyes and climbs up onto the Moon Well's rim.
"It's how we get home isn't it?"
Besides, he can't not pay attention to a call for help, even if it is a lure.
blue moon
Yeah, she didn't want to think about it.
"How about another theory with more to it."
Re: blue moon
Which Ten doubts anyone has tried climbing down the MoonWell yet.
No, what's a creepy thought is the capability to snatch people.
blue moon
He made absolutely no sense but it was refreshing in the way that only the Doctor could be.
"If you want I can stay up here and watch what happens to you. I'm sure it's some weird death thing and you'll either be dead or wake up back in pod stasis 101." Her voice just drips with sarcasm.
Re: blue moon
"That would be helpful and you can wheel me up if needed."
Probably shouldn't bring up that sometimes going into a trap door is the only way? Though he's not expecting this trap door to take him to The Beast.
Then taking out his sonic screwdriver and placing that in his mouth sideways; with the light on the end on; begins to climb down the rope and into the well.
Sadly, being told that maybe dying isn't going to stop him and begins to climb downwards into the darkness with only the sonic screwdriver light visible of course, on his way down Ten is looking at the walls to see if there's anything written on them or drawn and continues down...
Down.. down... down into the black abyss till even Freya can't see the light of the sonic screwdriver anymore.
Which after about 20 minutes; there's a tug on the rope; someone is trying to climb back up.
blue moon
She had no magical rope, even if that'd be super useful right about now.
Freya didn't grab hold of the rope but she did tie it off as he began to head down the well.
Now she played the waiting game.
Waiting was boring.
So boring.
Still boring.
It took her a few seconds after he had tugged on the rope to grab hold of it and begin pulling him up. Freya might be five nothing but she wasn't human and her species was strong. She pulled him up easily and he'd honestly find it difficult to climb along with her.
She grabbed his shoulder and easily lifted him up and away from the well. "So, find anything interesting?"
Re: 10th Doctor
That is, until she hears a voice that she doesn't know. Alex Reagan is particularly good with voices, and she's completely certain that she's not heard this one before, so it peaks her interest and she lifts her head in order to look at the man who she doesn't know who is wearing a suit. However, her eyes widen behind the rim of her glasses as she realizes what it is that he's holding in her hand. The watch is far less of interest to her (because of fourth wall reasons) but the wand? The wand she knows.
"Oh my god," there's excitement in the cool ready for radio Canadian voice, and she just blinks at him for a moment, almost too much excitement in such a tiny frame. "Is that? The elder wand? Like from Harry Potter elder wand?"
Re: 10th Doctor
"Thar's no way to verify that, now is thar?"
After all, that would mean saying magic is real and also being able to use the elder wand and if it really was the elder wand - you'd have to be magic yourself.

The interest in it is written all over her face, because Alex loves things like this, and at her core, she's a reporter and this is a new aspect of things she can report on. Tilting her head to one side with a frown, she adds, "that would mean that either they brought in characters from the Harry Potter verse, and other things, or that they're just sort of sucking in artifacts." Leaning forward a bit too look at it more intensely, Alex just smiles at him and makes a patented Alex Reagan bad joke, "well, I suppose they could be really good props, but they definitely seem to be more real than that."

every roll of the dice is possible somewhere else.
But to twist physics around like that; The Doctor does not like. At all.
Though Ten can't help but grin at the thought of actually meeting Harry Potter, Voldemort or Dumbledore.
The Doctor turns his head over and gives a big grin and bright big brown eyes and he's reminded of Sarah Jane with her. Ten hopes that these items are just being sucked in - over the alternative which means there are dead bodies to uncover somewhere from this mass of items.
However, if beings were able to be transcendental - items are a lot easier. Beings are more complicated atom breakdown - and making sure the insides stay on the inside.
There's a quick moment when Ten gives her a look of 'how did she know he was scanning that?'
"Well, you know how inventive humans are and wanting to recreate things from pop culture." Why yes, that was a bit sarcastic and rude.
"And that's the question isn't it? Are these items leftover from those who have and are here or just being randomly dumped here like us." A tongue click.
Then walks over to duel disk - mainly because The Doctor isn't sure what the function of this particular device would be for.
"I do have to hand it to you humans. You do come up with the most interesting things."
As The Doctor carefully turns the item upside down and sees the wrist strap and the number count - a vortex manipular from another universe? Which The Doctor scans the device; no - not a vortex manipular of sorts - though there is holographic technology embedded inside. Very advanced holographic technology.
The Doctor slides the strange device on his wrist - but portable holographic technology for what?
A big smile over to the other; "Humans, love your holographic technology so much that you found a clunky portable way to carry it around with you."
Which then The Doctor accidentally finds the switch that makes the two ends clasp together- which Ten jumps only for a second as the device makes a quick 'swoosh' sound and lights up and there's a number of '4000' that lights up.
4000? 4000 - what?
"I'm The Doctor by the way."

Piece one: definitely not a human. Humans don't refer to themselves in that way. But what he is is definitely human-shaped, and that tends to narrow the field a bit. Angel is a friend, and she's well an angel so Alex is aware of how celestial forms can be human-looking. But he doesn't strike her as being an angel. Angel herself has a certain way about her, and looking into his dark eyes, Alex is certain that he is older than he looks.
And there's that whole weird blue scanner thing that she has that definitely seems more out of this world and at home among the stuff here than anything back that she would have found in Seattle. For a moment she just considers his name, stepping closer to watch the weird holograph thing. "It almost looks like one of those clocks that projects the numbers on the wall." Nic has one, and Alex registers it to be a hipster thing; she can't help it.
"I'm Alex, Alex Reagan. Just 'The Doctor?" She can't help the question, because honestly, she's never heard of someone just going by their title before. Not even Richard had done it, or Warren or anyone else. Alex considers for a moment with a smile, and she adds the other question that honestly is only half of one. "So, you're not human. You're not a demon, are you?" Because honestly, Alex would really rather not be interacting with a demon if she can avoid it.
no subject
"Just The Doctor." A pause; and eyes her with a whut look because color him impressed she figured it out that quickly but why?
"If I were a demon wouldn't I be trying to process you, already?" Those eyes - those eyes are too old for that young face.
no subject
Yeah, she's not going to think about the fact that nightmares come and play here, and that sometime it might be her turn for the Helvation someday.
"But humans don't talk about humans in that way," Alex gestures towards the thing that he's playing with, and of course the scanner that he'd had. "So, I mean if you're trying to be incognito about it then..." Well, he'd failed obviously, but that was beside the point, because as long as the Doctor's not a demon, then she's not judging. At least not yet.
no subject
"I'm The Doctor." Which is apparently that is only important thing to know. Don't mind that he's going to wander a bit as he talks - as he's looking for a certain blue box.
"So - tell me Alex, how long have you been here?"
no subject
Falling into step with someone who's a foot taller than she is is an easy reflex after so long, and she's looking around as he is at the things that have been left outside the abandoned domes. So many fossils from people who have come here and left, if that's what it is. Eventually, she knows, that some of the things will be either her own or belonged to the people who she called friends now. It's a slightly sobering thought, and gives the entire notion a more ghoulish sort of notion. So, she's glad for the question.
"Almost four months," she explains simply, and then looks around at the piles around them. "So what in particular are we looking for?" Because of course Alex was helping him look now, it was part and parcel of her falling into step with him.

Blue Moon
Light curiosity took over instead of his usual disinterest. The man was decidedly unique, after all, and he made his way over. "I doubt you're going to hear any answer." What would he do next, find some rope and rappel down? Actually, Richard wouldn't be uninterested in seeing that.
Re: Blue Moon
"And why do you say that? What did you get on your fortune?"
no subject
"Nothing."
He didn't take a fortune from the well, but he's confident enough that if there were people buried under the well, they'd not be using such elegant script - unless it was the Sphere itself doing it again. That was a disturbingly quick option after the memory the Sphere.
"Would you like me to get you some rope?" He honestly wants to see if this man will go down into the well. It would be a curious distraction and tell Richard a lot about him.

It's the screwdriver that catches his attention and suspends the rope retrieval though (he really wanted to see how far gone this man was now). He doesn't say anything, just observes the other man until he inevitably notices that he's standing there, arms crossed and watching.
no subject
Finally, Ten turns; "Did you get the rope?"
no subject
Turning, he found one of his students who left, then returned with a good bit of rope and handed it to The Doctor.
no subject
That is before giving the stranger one of end of the rope and tying the other end to himself and proceeding to step onto the well rim and holding his sonic screwdriver using that as a flashlight as Ten slowly backs downwards into the Well; hopping downwards to be exact with the pulley system The Doctor made something of a makeshift harness.
